PICTURING SOCIAL ISSUES
University work for the third module of 1st year.
This project was the last project I had completed for the end of 1st year of university. Our brief was to make a photo assignment/ essay on social or environmental issues, and it was completely up to our own interpretation (Similarly to the 'Picturing Family' Brief). For this project, I had decided to create a series of photos to represent hijab-wearing Muslim women in a good light. France has shown that they're Islamophobic by banning Muslim women from wearing their hijabs and completely disregarding the whole community of these women by doing so. It's no ones right to chose whether or not these women can or cannot wear the hijab, apart from the individuals themselves, and for that, they should be respected for their choice. They are and should not be seen as oppressed for being strong, independent women who just want to show off their natural beauty not only for themselves, but for their culture and religious beliefs.
